Questions & Answers

What is the typical process for working with a new student?

John specifically instructs compound or recurve bow archery for target shooting, 3D shooting and hunting. His style is one-on-one so that the day's session can be customized to correct and develop the individual's skills. The bases for his coaching is developing solid shooting form, shot execution, and then building the mental game behind successful shooting. As well, he works with his students to properly size and tune their equipment to perform to it's best.

John's education and/or training?

John has been shooting for longer than he can remember. He has a USA Archery Level 2 Instructor Certification. John has completed a USA Archery background clearance and SafeSport training. He has attended a number of national instruction/coaching courses. We know he has read every book ever written on archery shooting and reviewed every video ever shot.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Typically lessons are charged per session. Sessions can run typically 1.5 hours. All instruction is one-on-one or in small groups.

How did John get started teaching?

I have shot for a number of years working hard to improve my scores and abilities. I never had anybody to turn to for help. This process through trial and error can be very frustrating. I wanted to help other people become better at archery without going through long trial and error process so I became an instructor.

What types of students have you worked with?

John has worked with children as young as 7 and with adults as old as in their 60's shooting either compound or recurve (Olympic style) bows.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a instructor/coach in your area of expertise?

Know clearly what you want to accomplish.

What questions should students think through before talking to instructors about their needs?

Clearly establish your goals. Tuning up for better hunting or 3D shooting is a completely different regiment than the one required to go to indoor/outdoor NFAA nationals. You need to have a clear understanding of what you want to accomplish and how far you want to take your archery shooting.
